Movie search, pre-2003, UK?

This was shown on Channel Five A UK channel, around eight years ago.

I only remember two scenes from the movie, and I don't remember the
name. It cannot have been made after 2003, and I didn't find it in the
Wikipedia pages for movies in the 1990s and 2000s.

It's a sci-fi/fantasy/horror thing, set in an underground base.

All I remember is that in one scene, huge wraith-like glowing
orange/red creatures are flying through a huge chamber in the base,
and soldiers are uselessly firing automatic rifles at them. The
wraiths occasionally swoop to eat a soldier or civilian probably
scientists.

In the other scene, I remember less, but two people are lying on a
lift, going up through flames which could be wraiths, I'm not sure.
One of them dies in the other's arms a romantic connection, I think,
and his 'soul', which is blue as opposed to the orange wraiths,
ascends away from the surviving woman. I think the movie finished at
the end of this scene, and the woman has escaped the base.
